Well, one of the ideas of sprinting is to take on tasks that might be too difficult to take on alone, or where people are coming in with different experience. E.g., a tricky design question, or tackling a body of code that you don't understand. That's hard to get through (or at least not much fun) when you are on your own, but it might not be so hard in a group. So I think a sprint is a good chance to take on something most people wouldn't feel immediately capable of.
