I agree,
Deborah. I believe this was merely
an informational publishing on the part of DHHS. Covered entities are not, in the absence of instruction by
DHHS to do so, required to provide our patients with this information. However, in my organization we do plan
to provide the address if asked. We are
taking a proactive approach and doing our best to make ourselves available to
receive complaints. As required, our
NPP advises clients of their right to file a complaint with the Secretary but
encourages them to direct their complaints, concerns and questions to us by
prominently emphasizing the contact information both in the NPP and via our publicity
campaign which includes posters and website postings. In
addition, we are actively encouraging our workforce to do the same – direct any
concerns to us – and doing our best to make everyone aware of the name of the
individual(s) to whom they may bring such issues and several means by which to
do so – phone, fax, email, mail, in person, etc. In fact, we are going so far as to include the opportunity
for our workforce to bring issues to our attention during regular meetings and issuing
frequent reminders as to other means by which to report such concerns for those
who do not feel comfortable voicing such matters during meetings. It is our policy to take swift action
in response to complaints or questions and to keep all parties informed as to
progress and eventual resolution. Cheri
