Keynoters Announced at WEDI SNIP HIPAA Implementation Summit!

*John W. Loonsk, M.D., Associate Director for Informatics and Director, 
Information Resources Management Office, Centers for Disease Control and 
Prevention.  John W. Loonsk, M.D., received his medical training at the State 
University of New York at Buffalo after graduating from the Johns Hopkins 
University. Through advanced degree work, research and administration he has 
always pursued a medical career that balanced medicine and information 
technology. He first became involved in medical informatics activities as 
early as 1975 when he worked on a project to develop a taxonomy of liver 
diseases. In August of 1999 he joined the National Center for Infections 
Diseases at the CDC as Associate Director for Informatics and Chief 
Information Officer.  Since joining the CDC he has become instrumental in the 
planning and development of the National Electronic Disease Surveillance 
System (NEDSS) and other activities to support the advancement of the 
burgeoning field of Public Health Informatics. In February of 2000, he was 
named CDC Associate Director of Informatics and assumed responsibility for 
the CDC's central information technology organization, the Information 
Resources Management Office.

*Don Rucker, Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Siemens.  Mr. Rucker has 
been involved in work on medical decision making since medical school at the 
University of Pennsylvania where he studied with the late John Eisenberg, MD 
(formerly Director of AHRQ).  He studied medical computer science at Stanford 
under Ted Shortliffe, MD, PhD where he was a graduate student in the 
Knowledge Systems Lab (Stanford's artificial intelligence research lab).  He 
has maintained his focus on the electronic medical record as co-developer of 
the first Windows based EMR.  His role at Siemens as CMO continues his 
interests in making clinical software faster and easier to use.   He also 
continues to practice medicine in high performance environments.

*Randall Spratt, Sr. VP of Development, Technology Services, McKesson.  Randy 
Spratt is senior vice president of Business Process Improvement and Ancillary 
Systems for McKesson Information Solutions.  Spratt is responsible for 
process improvement within MIS's core software business, including 
development, support and implementation, and for McKesson's imaging and 
laboratory products. In his 15-year tenure with McKesson, Spratt participated 
in a number of architecture and technology definition and planning roles.  As 
vice president of ancillary systems, he developed and deployed the successful 
Pathways Laboratory system.  Spratt also lead the laboratory systems 
operations through five years of profitability during major product lifecycle 
transitions.  Prior to joining McKesson, Spratt led the end-to-end 
development of four successful ancillary department clinical information 
systems.  Spratt also brought two companies from concept to market to 
acquisition.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with a minor 
in computer science, from the University of Utah.
