Date of onset of illness is a field that is currently required for some
insurance now.
Our registrars ask at time of registration when the symptoms started.
You shouldn't need to "plug" a date.

For the date of onset of illness and the date of "similar" illness, the
implementation guide allows a date, not a range of dates. (837 P pages 188
& 192)
How will you providers handle this when the patient is not sure of the
exact date?
If we populate a date out of the air, it will not match up with the chart
notes that reflect lack of information from the patient.
