Gireesha, is this a trick question? I thought the 278 response WAS an electronic version of a Referral/Authorization "Form." Even though the payer is obligated to support the 278 (if it supports pre-authorization at all), the provider still has the option of using paper, fax or telephone - if the payer allows it (which it should - electronic claims and ERAs are enough for now!). But if the provider is willing to accept the standard 278, why not use it?

Can we use 278 in such scenarios? Thanks for your thoughts. Gireesha Sooryanarayana --- The WEDI SNIP listserv to which you are subscribed is not moderated.
