Margaret, thank you for bringing up this point. I am very interested in how
this question is answered. We have been using a live HIPAA 834 version of
since November of last year and have not had any problems with creating a
termination code (024)in the HD segment in Loop 2300 when using a BGN code
4, INS03 = 030 and INS04 = XN.

However, the latest version of our compliance tool is now stating that this
method is no longer compliant. I would like to know how current trading
partners are dealing with this issue in the production environment. We need
the ability to provide our carriers with a full monthly file WITH
terminations, per THEIR request.

Thanks for listening,
Gloria Harris

Note that not all health plans are willing to terminate by omission of a
member's record in an enrollment file. Some do require 'positive' term
records that give them a specific term date.

Simply do not include the member in the transmission of the full file. By
default then, the member will be terminated as his/her record is not part
of the roster.
