Thanks for the reply!

Interesting about the USB option now.  Obviously if it's no longer an issue 
with noise and all then that would be the preferred option as it eliminates 
the need to go get one of those legacy DB9-USB connectors.

I'll instruct my friend to pick up the USB version then.
