grabbed:

      * gnu-free-fonts-common-20120503-8.el7.noarch.rpm

Installed them after a 'yum install fontpackages-filesystem
fontpackages-tools' to provide the prerequisites.

Next weewx run resulted in a normal looking degrees-F in the plots after
changing
the path to the rpm-provided path of /usr/share/fonts/gnu-free which is
where they were installed to.

So do I need to do anything to create the memory leak other than leave
it running ?

No. At Centos 7 level, that is all it takes.
To make it leak faster, change archive interval in weewx.conf from 300 to 60.
