Still I have not been able to get lightning and lightning_strikes into the 
database.  I have added the units to extensions.py per the customization 
manual, reconfigured the database several times but still no luck. 
When I run weewx manually with the as3925 configuration I see those units 
in the loop so I know the module and driver are working. 
Modifying wview.py will probably work but I would rather fix it the correct 
way and I just don't understand why the items from extensions.py are not 
being read into the database.
