Hi Jim,
I had the same problem. I solved it by creating a template with a single
line
$current.outTemp.string
Then adding
[[[Temperature]]]
encoding = utf8
template = temperature.txt.tmpl
to the standard skin.conf file.
I can now read the text file and add it to my webcam capture as seen here
