I have reported a suspicion of this before - but now I am confirming this.
I started to suffer from a loss of radio reception on my FO1080 - and knew
the batteries were ok. When it became a case of more lost than connected I
decided to investigate further.

On looking at the transmitter I found a support brace I had installed
to keep the transmitter vertical had got dislodged - and the transmitter
was off vertical by about 15 degrees. Put the brace back in position,
transmitter vertical (receiver is always vertical since the console
is attached to a wall) - and radio reception instantly restored and not
been lost since.

Moral of story - if you suffer radio dropouts on FO gear - ensure the
transmitter and receiver are exactly vertical and you will see a big
improvement. I do not know if they have to be vertical or just aligned to
the same angle - and will NOT be experimenting further (but you can)!!
