All, I have discovered that for ftp forecast files, BOM generates a small <file>.amoc.xml that has information on latest update. I have hence updated aussearch.py to cater for this. With the updated you will get updated forecast files downloaded when they are available. Often there is an update around 9am.
Also, if you want the forecast precis and full forecast page to have "Updated at..." vs "Issued at..." also grab index-forecast.tmpl and forecast.html.tmpl.
