be sure that you set the right accumulator for any counters that you add to
the database schema.
given the names you chose, in your weewx config file, do something like
this:
[Accumulator]
[[lightningStrikes]]
extractor = sum
this is for weewx 3.7 and later. pre-3.7 requires a line of python code
for each observation.
