Never wise to assume anything!!  Get into the habit of reading/checking the 
user guide, and with new releases always read/check the release notes which 
accompany the new release.

As Gary says the format for specifying altitude in weewx.conf is
either
altitude = xxx, meter 
or 
altitude = xxx,foot
