Hi! I'd like advice on which one to choose, Weewx or Cumulus MX, for my cottage's remote Davis Vantage Vue + Weatherlink IP weather station. So far, I've used Cumulus on my PC at home with an internet connection to the console at the cottage. It works, but I have problems with breaks in the connection and an IP address which keeps changing.
Therefore I want to run the weather software locally on a (headless) Raspberry Pi beside the console and then upload the data e.g. to a website using FTP. Besides the basic uploading I'm very interested in getting pseudo-realtime wind data (which the Vue reports every 2.5 seconds). Both Cumulus MX and Weewx seem so support it using the realtime.txt file either "natively" (Cumulus MX) or using an extension such as CRT (Weewx). Any advice on pros and cons of Cumulus MX vs. Weewx? Both also seem to support uploading either to a local website running on the same Raspberry Pi, or to any external website. However, each has its challenges. With a local website (that I want to be visible) I guess I need to use no-ip.com or asimilar service that can redirect a permanent IP address to whatever IP address the cottage's router is on. When using an external website, the fast updating frequency might upset the hosting server, though I guess it's enough to upload the latest wind data every minute. Any differences in this regard? The cottage is mostly unvisited during October-April, so the setup should be fairly robust. Therefore a PC at the site is not a option.
