james,

the usb branch of weewx is intended to fix this. i have usb working on
macos 10.11 and 10.7 with the fine offset hp3000 and have had it working
with the dyacon MS-150 controller (usb interface to modbus). the dyacon
changes are not as recent since i have been running that on windows more
than macos.

unfortunately, the usb branch requires modifications to any usb-based weewx
driver.

the change is not for a beginner, but at the same time it is not too
difficult. the biggest problem is going to be testing all of the
permutations of usb libraries, operating systems, and usb devices.

please let me know if you would like to try the changeover for the acurite
driver - i could guide you through it.
