Always easiest on a pi to just swap in a new SD card, install the os, and 
reinstall/reconfigure weewx+skins based on a 'copy' of your original 
working setup with the earlier version.

I wouldn't think you should be down too long unless you have a lot of 
manual customizations that you don't remember having done any more....

But you're on the right track for sure...
