But - it should never be necessary. I'd probably start by relocating the gateway to someplace with known solid wifi. If that doesn't work I'd consider contacting the seller for a hardware replacement. My guess is you have flaky wifi. Run a wifi scanner and see if somebody's out-radiating you nearby or running on the wrong channel and overlapping the normal bands.
