Thanks Tom and Vince, I really appreciate your help in suggesting and testing this solution, which works great also with s6. I'm just wondering why it isn't (at least from looking around) in the User's guide <https://weewx.com/docs/usersguide.htm>... I believe it is something that more people could need! Anyway, I'm happy for a solution way simpler than I imagined.
