I'm curious why you need such a small update interval as I don't notice
many changes in 5 minutes most of the time, and I think I saw that weeWX
keeps track of min/max from loop packets for the archive period...

Some skins use MQTT to display information from loop packets that fire
every few seconds and then show it on web sites. In this situation it's to
keep the information as fresh as possible, without needing to store it in
small update intervals. Everything else would still come from the archive
packets.
