To be honest I have no idea why my copy of 24.04.3 LTS failed. It was in the middle of installing when I had a message window popup stating that the installed failed. Asked me to send the report but I passed on it. So I don't believe it was a kernel issue.
Since I found my old previous installation media I knew that worked previously so just went with that. Like stated I'm running desktop. Any time there is an update I get a window saying a update is available and I just pass on it. I think when I get back home tonight I will disable updates just in case.
