Xanadu, I mean Burtonsville, really does exist.  Its charms are few, but among them are the Dress Barn, Bedding Barn, and the Barn Barn, as well as the mid-atlantic-famous, if not world-famous, Burtonsville Amish Market.  Oh, and Tubby's Diner, a classic greasy spoon.
 
If you're map-inclined, it's located just west of Laurel.
 
I'm too young to have seen or relate to Xanadu...so I don't know why or how he determined that Xanadu = Burtonsville.
