Pimpernelle is German for pimpernel, which is a kind of flower. I'm
sure lots of people who know about the scarlet pimpernel don't know
what a pimpernel actually is. Speaking of common words that I didn't
know the meaning of--with all the discussion about state symbols I
came across Ohio being the buckeye state, and Ohio state team name is
the buckeyes. Until last week I had no idea what a buckeye is.
Turns out it's a tree. Am I the only one who didn't know this? To
have a state nickname that is so uncommon that people don't know what
it means might mean that it might not be the best nickname. Just a
thought.
