People often don't know this, but yes, Katie Couric does have the
capability to do "hard" news, and has done so many times over.  She's
interviewed the President, and she was also on air for much of the
9/11 coverage.  In getting her, CBS acknowledged that they won't be
able to use many of the soft interview skills she has, and she'll
obviously be in a much tighter format, but they think she can do it,
and will be able to draw viewers.

Me?  I don't think she'll be able to cut it.  It'll be interesting to
see how she survives in a much more rigorous format, but it is kinda
cool that she'll be the first woman to solo anchor the evening news.
