Ah - I suppose I can understand the international angle. However, I have also lived in Colombia (with the o, not u), Israel, Ecuador, and Nigeria (and Switzerland), so I have some experience with that end of it. Granted, all of those (except for Switzerland) were before 6th grade, but I did get to go through a military coup. I might recommend a cruise in your case. The downside about them is that they DO tend to be extremely 'programmed' as far as activities go, but you can certainly strike out on your own on some of the islands if you do some research beforehand.
