In my neighborhood things were different. Nicknames for boys were
frequently mysterious and unconnected with birthnames, first or last.
Examples: Peter Carroll became "Geemo" and Bob Zanneo
became "Chemma." So "Sue" for my brother was definitely a departure
from the usual pattern.
