here for the humor value and potential of all of you, and less so
because of Gene.

from a co-worker). This woman was at a wedding reception during
which the bride and groom offered a prayer. So far, so good.
Prayers at weddings aren't unheard of. Except in this prayer, the
bride and groom beseeched God to help all of their single guests
find a mate, since that was the only true path to love and
happiness. As in, "Dear Lord, please help all of our single friends
get dates so they can be happy like us and won't have to be alone."

Ick.
That's definitely one couple whose longevity I'd bet against.
Although given how smug and self-satisfied they sound, they might
have been made for each other.
Re: the fan club question, I don't think this group is a fan club.
After all, we do talk about subjects other than Gene -- Gene and his
columns and chats are just a springboard for discussion. Whereas if
we were a true fan club, we'd undoubtedly be far more obsessed with
Gene. "I saw him! I saw him walking down the street! Here's a
pic! His mustache looked shorter than in the pic James posted
yesterday -- do you think it means something?"
