Number 2 in an unscheduled and intermittent series of reports.

Black Baldy:

Black Baldy is a corss of the white-faced Hereford and the all-black, polled Angus.  This creates an offspring with superior hybrid vigor: faster growth and greater bulk than the parents, but the benefits last for only one generation.  The black baldy has decent cold weather tolerance; even the calves are hardy.  For the actual breeding, the Angus is often used as a sire, since the Hereford cow has slightly better milking and mothering ability than the Angus cow.  Ubiquitous throughout the United States.

I went to Yahoo to try to find a picture of a black baldy, but came across this, instead: http://www.theprairiestar.com/articles/2006/01/19/ag_news/opinion/opinion10.txt

included here because it is an amusing rant on the issue of cow celebrity, and because the cow picked up the name Molly, and it involves a dog giving chase through town.  Basically, by escaping, Molly didn't fulfill her duty as a cow.
