there isn't really a connection, tinyurl is perfectly safe.  Some 
spammers were just taking advantage of its ability to hide the URL to 
send spam.  Tinyurl is actually on top of the situation and the 
columnist is congratulating the site for being so vigilant.

    
did you see the spam-TinyURL connection on post.com today?  Max's 
aversion to TinyURL has some merit!
