Just for the record I wasn't offended or felt like you harshly corrected me.
I did post fairly definatively that it stopped implantation and I was wrong.
Maybe we should just switch the topic to "net neutrality"... Anyone understand that debate?
Take Care,

First off, thanks to Ellen for correcting me.  I did mean implantation.

Secondly, I apologize for the needlessly rude form of my response.  I was writing quickly and angrily, two two adverbs that I have tried to avoid in my response to WC.  Today, I did not, and we see why that is a bad idea.  Again, I apologize.  You certainly did not deserve to be corrected so harshly.

It's not ridiculous that you were confused about how Plan B works.  But, look at the information you provide in your response.  The drug works to prevent ovulation.  That's how it was designed, that's what it supposed to do.  It is possible, but thus far not been proven in the dozens and dozens of tests that they've done, that it could also prevent implantation.

It is in the interest of a lot of people who hate a woman's right to have sex without punishment to confuse you on this issue.  While it may still be 'morally consistent' for people to oppose Plan B because of an unproven possibility that a 'baby' could be flushed out a woman, that is not what you said.

You said, "Plan B stop[s] implantion of the fertilized egg in the uterus."  There's no subjunctive in that statement.  No 'could', no 'might'.  I felt it was important to correct that.

Again, I was wrong to have done so in the manner that I did.  I apologize to you and the group for being a humorless tightass.

Wow... Looks like I am wrong. Funny though that the FDA website while mentioning stopping ovulation also says that it may stop implantation. I guess they are wrong too...
Also Barr labs the company that makes it states: "It prevents pregnancy mainly by stopping the release of an egg," says the manufacturer, Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. However, Barr adds, the drug "may also prevent the fertilization of an egg" or prevent a fertilized egg "from attaching to the uterus.""
The article then goes on to say....
"There's the rub. If you think a fertilized egg is a human being, as most anti-abortion activists do, then preventing it from attaching to the uterus is abortion."
Interesting stuff about Catholic Church's stand in that article too.....
"The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops authorizes doctors to offer a rape survivor a drug that blocks ovulation or fertilization "if, after appropriate testing, there is no evidence that conception has occurred already." According to the Catholic Health Association, most Catholic hospitals interpret this directive liberally, since conception is hard to verify and there's "no direct scientific evidence" that EC blocks implantation."
Looks to me like most of the problem is the possibility that fertilization occured and life has begun. But I could be wrong again.

Actually, no.

Plan B prevents ovulation, NOT fertilization.*

People (I use that term loosely in this case) want to ban it because they believe that forced childbirth is the best way to Punish the Sluts.

*Here's a great explanation from PZ Myers about exactly how our bodies and Plan B work.  Alas, Planned Parenthood tends to put all the scientific stuff in big scary pdfs, so misconceptions like yours get propagated all over the place even by right-thinking peoples

While I am a supporter of plan B it is important to undetstand that it does not stop conception. Conception occurs when the sperm meets the egg also known as fertilization. Plan B stop implantion of the fertilized egg in the uterus. That is why people want to ban it. If you believe that life starts at conception then there is technically no difference between stopping a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus and having an abortion.
