So...if the voters are going to be stupid, then they get what they
deserve.

Gay marriage, to me, is such a minor part of the issue, much like
flag burning. Honestly, the only time I've seen the flag burned was
by Middle Eastern protesters...once the TV cameras were turned on.
Americans so rarely burn flags, it's one of the most unviolated laws
in the country. However, the mere mention of the subject stirs strong
emotions to the easily-angered. That more folks break the law of
having sex with dead animals than burn flags is of no consequence to
these people.

What the whole "protection of marriage" issue is certainly aimed at
gays, to a degree. The REAL benefit to these marriage definition laws
is to allow insurance companies yet ANOTHER way to screw over their
customers.

Common-law marriage has been a time-honored tradition, and a way for
non-married couples to help pass on benefits. If that goes away, a
lot of same-sex couples will finally either have to get married or
simply do without.

I'm wondering if there's more common-law marriages than there would
be gay marriages...if so, then we see that the insurance companies
are simply loving this turn of events. "No more insurance payments to
DuPont Circle AND Appalaichia!! Win-win, baby!"
