Tomorrow's Globe magazine is online now (obviously, since Gene's
column is online now) and it is the education issue, and there is an
article about how Prince Edward County, VA (not sure where that is)
closed all its public schools in the '50's for 5 years rather than
integrate, then opened white-only private schools. So the black kids
didn't have a school to go to. For 5 years. Unless they left town.
Unbelievable. Or maybe it isn't. Just sad. The article is
definitely worth reading. Was anyone else in this group unaware of
this, or is this just another example of a gap in my education?
