I thought you could post copyrighted material in general usually as long as you don't profit from it or try to pass it off as your own and you indicate the source, under something called fair use. Cecil Adams' personal rules might be different, but I'm pretty sure Gene is OK with us saying "This is a funny quote from the column" or remember this from the chat" and copying a few lines. I didn't/don't think there are any copyright issues involved.
