I don't think Gene fully grasps how important of a contribution he is making to the quality of people's lives. I need to write a 5-page writing sample for a job interview on the topic of my choice. It is for the American Library Association, so I was going to write some BS about the importance of libraries to society, but instead I think I will write about the importance of humor to society. I think we (OK, maybe not US, but other people) underestimate the power of humor to improve quality of life or just your general outlook on the world. I know I'm extrapolating, but still--sometimes I think if people just looked on the lighter side of life once in a while they would think things aren't as bad as they seem. Mad magazine, Gene, Monty Python, etc. can sometimes be a godsend.
