I had  book around here - history through technology.  Which was very 
interesting.  I always found history thru kings and battles to be boring 
(and depressing), but this book was about the ingenious things 'ordinary' 
people were doing in their everyday lives.  All I remember offhand was about 
windows and how changing climate conditions inspired people to do something 
about those holes in their walls...
