yeah the whole "better to keep my mouth shut and be thought a fool" thing. In other words, I have no idea. Are you sure it was whiskey? Might have been ceremonial wine. Pretty sure it isn't a synagogue-wide thing, just a thing at that particular congregation. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
