Paul Whalley, from New Longton, saved 15-year-old labrador Laddie while he was walking his own dog. Laddie's owner Tricia Parker said Mr Whalley is a hero for saving the dog's life. It suffers heart problems. Four months ago, Laddie nearly died after a falling in a canal. "My dog is under heart treatment from the vet. He is 15 but he thinks and acts like he's five. He goes mad for girl dogs and that's what caused it. He saw this other dog and he was off but he collapsed before he got to her. He has a leaky valve in his heart and he got that excited his heart stopped," she told the local newspaper. A company in Dubai has made 400 tonnes of snow to allow people to ski in the desert. Landmark Exhibitions' Snow World in Creek Park has a slope that's around 50 yards long and 10 yards wide. The company plans to build a 1,000-yard-long ski slope by 2004. Vice-president Yousef El-Hindi, said: "It is a new concept, and a first in the entire Middle East. "We have used the highest technology available in making snow, and it is safe for everyone to play with, or put in their mouths. It's made of pure water and modern Australian technology." The company has also imported ski instructors from Europe and Russia "to teach the kids how to ski." The tent-shaped structure will be kept at a constant temperature of around minus seven degrees Celsius, Gulf News reports. Pilot parks helicopter in stranger's garden and goes for dinner... A pilot parked his helicopter in a stranger's back garden before being whisked off in a car to a restaurant. Mina Mansbridge was startled to see a Gazelle helicopter parked on her lawn in Langthorpe, North Yorkshire. The pilot, Andrew Foreman of Tickton Hall, says he was forced to make an emergency landing. He clambered out of the helicopter with a female passenger and was picked up from the road by a car which took them to the Crab and Lobster restaurant in Asenby, near Thirsk. Miss Mansbridge told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I just couldn't believe it when I saw the helicopter on my lawn. It's not really the sort of thing you expect to see. "A lot of people had seen it land and someone must have called the police because they arrived soon after." Mr Foreman returned after his meal and told waiting police he'd had mechanical problems.
