A Polish woman has been charged with animal cruelty
after police found her pet dog drunk. Police were called
to the woman's flat in Jelenia Gora by neighbours who
claimed she regularly gave the dog beer during drinking
sessions. Police carried out tests on both the woman
and her dog and found both had high levels of alcohol
in their bloodstreams.
Two Romanian burglars who put socks on their hands to
avoid leaving fingerprints have been sniffed out by a police
dog. They were caught only a few hours after their raid on a
mobile phone shop in Iasi. Police believe the dog tracked
them down from the smell of their socks which were still in
their pockets.
A teenager who was shot after holding a gun to his head
and asking a friend to pull the trigger could be jailed. Ryan
Fage, 19, was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm
at Fitchburg District Court. Prosecutors are recommending
a two-year jail sentence. The bullet went through his skull
but skirted his brain. He was drinking with friends in April
when he was shot in the head after holding the barrel and
telling a friend: "Shoot me, shoot me."
He wasn't seriously hurt.
A Kent pensioner has been jailed for seven days for refusing
to fill in last year's census form and pay the resulting fine and
court costs. Robert Relf, who's 77, from Park Lane, Birchington,
near Thanet, says he thought the form was an insult because
he had to say he was British rather than English. Before
appearing at Margate Magistrates' Court, he said he'd rather
be jailed than pay the �150 fine and forsake his principles.
