A Norwegian man returned home after a Christmas
holiday abroad to find 150 Christmas trees surrounding
his house. Dag Lotveit says he had to fight his way
through the trees, which were wired together, to get
back into the house. The trees had been put there by
his three older brothers as a surprise to mark his
40th birthday. There was also a sign reading "Happy
Birthday" on the house which is outside Oslo. "This
is what it is like to be the youngest of four brothers,"
he told local newspaper Budstikka.
The cremated remains of an 80-year-old woman have
been presented to her family in the form of a diamond
stone, the first delivery of this kind in the world. The
remains of Edna MacArthur from Alberta, Canada were
compressed into a three gramme sample and flown to
Italy. Intense heat was then used to incorporate the
remains into carbon used to craft a diamond. "This is
the first presentation of a synthetic diamond made in
this way," Brian Crawford, president of Fountain Garden
Funeral Services. The family planned to have the stone
placed in a golden ring.
An armed robber who repeatedly raided an Argentinian
petrol station has been hired as its head of security.
Andr�s Pietro, owner of the Buenos Aires filling station,
says the man has robbed the place more than 100 times.
He said: "If I had to give him some money every month
under a gun menace, I prefer to have him working for me."
Mr Pietro, whose petrol station is in the working class
suburb of San Justo, added: "We never received any
help from the police." He said he had decided to offer
the man a job as he was tired with being robbed by him.
