A German pensioner has been banned from driving after
he was caught drunk on his lawnmower. The 57-year-old
was stopped by a police officer in the Klementsplatz area
of Dusseldorf. He was doing less than 4mph on his John
Dere lawnmower and a breath test revealed he was slightly
over the legal alcohol limit. A Dusseldorf court convicted
him of drink-driving, fined him �270 and banned him from
driving for three months.
Police in Seoul have arrested 170 men on charges of
avoiding compulsory military service by getting tattoos.
Although there is no law against tattoos, South Koreans
consider them symbols of disgrace, often associated
with gangsters. The men were arrested on charges of
"willfully tampering with their bodies to avoid military duty",
and could face up to three years in prison. The country's
conscription law says men with large tattoos are unfit
for military service because they cause "abomination
among fellow soldiers."
Police in Germany are investigating a couple after they
took their nine-day-old baby to an AC/DC concert. Other
fans at the Hockenheim Formula One motor racing ring
warned police after seeing the 41-year-old mother
holding the youngster. The couple only agreed to leave
after a doctor at the scene warned them of the danger
of exposing a nine-day-old baby to such noise levels.
They are now facing criminal charges. More than 65,000
rock fans turned out to see the band support the Rolling
Stones on their 40 Licks tour.
