The excitement of an engagement and wedding plans are contagious! Not only do
the bride and groom get into the act; family and friends have suggestions,
opinions and ideas as well. Once calendars are considered and a date has been
set, a countdown may begin. Lists of things to do are categorized and put on a
timetable. A bride often enlists the help of family and friends as she prepares
for the wedding. The anticipation builds as the day draws closer, and one
morning the bride wakes up, knowing “this is the day.”
In other cultures thee have been different customs. In ancient times, the
bride may not even have known exactly when the wedding would take place. Her
future husband would make many plans, and then one day, she may hear through
“the grapevine” that he was on his way, and her final preparations would be
quickly made. The anticipation was about to become reality! The Bible speaks
several times about the anticipation of a wedding. Let’s look at this together
and see what we can learn.
