I am having the same issue with Tomcat 7.0.37 and Weld 1.1.10 Final (also tried Weld 2.0.0 Beta 3, which fails).
If a proper resolution for this is not identified soon, would it make sense to go with Phillipp's "quick fix" and perhaps log a warning that a memory leak may occur? At least that way this problem is not preventing progress and can be fixed in the future.
