Martin Kouba I did ask on the Groovy mailing list and guess what they said - this looks like a Weld bug, have you tried the Weld community?
I'm not sure if Groovy in particular has anything to do with it. One way to find out would be to write a Java Unit test and try to reproduce this. Given that no one cared to look into this in the last one month I reported it, I'm afraid all that effort would be futile because no one would ever look at that test case.
