I really had hoped InterceptionFactory would have filled that gap and made producers even more powerful by allowing interception of non-CDI beans. This is something which needs a serious discussion in the EG/spec because it should not be that hard to achieve. For your information, my original PR did not include any test illustrating that particular use-case but nevertheless allowed it to work (I have added an equivalent example and all tests pass).
