Biodiesel that I've used was smoky, burns weakly
Fish and chip smell or whatever oil you use
You can use ethanol ( if you can get it pure enough) and Potassium hydroxide in
place of the methanol as a catlyst
Mixing a higher flashpoint fuel will help a little if you manage to get too hot
Catch you at the burn and korero

were you looking for kero? If you go back and need to find some, let me know as
it's easy to come buy there. Much easier than white gas (coleman's). The lamp
oil makes the white gas burn longer. The only issue with it is depending where
you are performing, some places won't let you use the lamp oil due to the
residue it will leave.

in the states I could not get kero.... so I blended lamp oil (won't burn good)
and colmans (burns too good)The same could be done with old oil from fish n
chip shop cooking oil (cheaper than chips) and fuel light/ colemans.

I'd be keen to find out more about the biofuels for spinning. Making bio-diesel
from waste oil is pretty easy, though it does involve using methanol (nasty)
and sodium hydroxide (not very nice either). If it's just for spinning, not for
putting it in a car, then you haven't got to worry so much about fuel quality,
water content, all that palarver. Still, diesel burns pretty hot and I've seen
varying reports about whether spinning with biodiesel is a good idea or
not.Biokerosene is probably what we're after, but all the work that I've seen
on biokerosene has been about making fuel for planes, where they're far more
worried about really, really, really high quality and reliability, not about
making it cheap as chips and easy to do at home. But yeah, if someone's got a
way to make something that burns slower and colder than diesel, I want to find
out more.Jez_________________________________________________________________
