I have Maori in my family.... Their language is something that many Maori are quite territorial over... you have to earn the right to speak at all... and you do not just up and give yourself a title. If the group adopts a Maori name for itself, I would call my rellies and ask about it... then I will probably leave. It is like giving yourself a tiki... it is disrespectful to take it.
In saying that... if "wellington fire" is too boring in English... then it is too boring in Maori. ...it probably be okay if the English translation of what is said is beautiful and well crafted too, then the Maori language would be being respected. although... something beautiful and well crafted would not need translating into Maori to be interesting would it?
