i consider most of the points made to be extremely valid, which is why I
first raised the question in my earlier message about undercutting
professionals, and asked for comments from people about what is a good sort
of arrangement.

i should have not made any comments to Zoe about payment and costs, which
were all vague and off the top of my head as ideas, without first checking
what the feeling was of whoever might be into doing it.

so far there has been very little information from Zoe about the nature of
what she is asking. I am getting the idea it might a vague desire to have
lots of circusy-type things going on amid a crowd of revellers and other
stuff going on, and wonder if there is actually any sort of sound-system
envisaged, or any formal structure to it. it might be just a general idea
that people would feel free to turn up and muck around as another venue for
doing it, or it might be part of a structured programme of entertainment.
the nature of the initial invitation was just that, an invitation. "hey
we're having a carnival feel free to come along and do fire".

i originally sent a contact message because it seemed that "someone has to"
in order to try to find out more, and it went from there. I am not
comfortable being "speaker for the group" in an authoritative sense, without
actually collating and presenting the stated opinions of people involved.

I don't really enjoy the idea of just sort of turning up and setting up as
per a Tuesday, amid a huge crowd of people who might be nice family types or
who might be drunken bogans, or a mixture thereof. even at the south karori
equinox thing there were drunken bogans being irritating.

so i propose further enquiry, and either someone else can talk it over with
Zoe, or people can consider the options and indicate preference, something
like the following maybe?

- just turning up like itinerant buskers and being shown a spot and left to
it all informally, costs covered and a cherry on top

- being given a spot, a time slot, and some infrastructural support such as
access to sound equipment, and making an effort to keep the flames
continually moving as a group, cash reward/payment as a group

- structured and announced performance time and place, full support
resources including securty, stagey area, some sort of prearranged order of
stuff to be done as a sort of show and a definite fee on an established
per-person basis

- etc.

I am not a pro, sometimes I do really well and sometimes my stuff is shit.
If it is all paid and committed and structured then there is an obligation
to do something "good". If it is totally informal I would feel free to feel
like not doing it on the night (face it I really don't like close crowds all
that much) especially if something else more entertaining to do came along
for that evening or i was exhausted from a week of the kind of shit i have
been going through lately. which is another reason why i am reluctant at
this stage to be committed as transport.

We meet and spin fire in Frank Kits Park Tuesday nights weather permitting.
Please bring Koha if you wish to use the fuel provided.
This is pegasol and is highly refined kerosene $5 minimum.
If you wish to bring your own fuel, please bring your own dipping bucket so you
do not mix down the peg with regular kero.
