Unfortunately, the ticket #264 was not up to date, and it should have
been marked as invalid. My mistake.
Ticket #256 has been created to contain the changes that would fix the
problems initially reported in #264.
So, although your patch would be perfect, it won't be commited :-(.

submit other such good patches in the future.
