Ok, I understand.

Personally I'm more a fan of the old Unix philosophy: one tool for
one task. I've made more positive experiences with single-task
applications (that are focussed and therefor very good in their only
field) than with multi-purpose application, but I know there are
other people around.

I'm just curious about why these new features are implemented before
the 'core' is stable enough [0] ...

Well, if there was a working Linux version at all I'd use it, too ;-)

Maybe a modularized approach with core vs. plugins might be helpful
and easier to develop/maintain?

Ooohh ;-)
I'm not much of a programmer except for small scripts but I'll think
about this idea ...

Cheers,

[0] on stability:
* Classic: None of the existing debs (including the one that is in
Debian's new queue right now) work for me (or any of my friends using
Debian, too): There's no sound. A friend of mine managed to compile
the source with OSS instead of ALSA support and it works (on a
machine with ALSA and only OSS-compatibility stuff BTW).
* NG: I'm not really happy about the fact that the builds often
break, and if they succeed there's still either the "wrong ui file"
bug or the mysterious segfault.

No reproach or offense intended, I really like the project, but I'm
confused about the priorities as I perceive them (which may be
distored of course).
