I'd like to see the possibility for an optional server side contact list.
Yet, I don't want it to be necessarily stored on wengo servers or
something.
A server side contact list is on the roadmap for the next releases to come, however the details about how to access it, the need for a local contact list too and how to merge both of them are not set in stone yet.
It would be great if someone could give the wengo software the
possibility to get the contact list from a php-script that sores them in
a database.
There may be a web service with open specifications in the future that will act as a contact list server. Implementing a web service would be a way to do the same thing.
It would be awesome if we could have an contact list script that
everybody can put on his web space.
I'm thinking about something that can be used as an online accessible
address book via a neat php interface and to store the wengo contact list.
That would be great, indeed.
Maybe wengo could get an option to retrieve and store the contact list
from a user specified location (the user's web space with the script
running). The script should of course be password protected, so he would
also have to provide a user name and password in the wengo client.
I like this idea, because it gives you the possibility to store you
contacts, access them from everywhere even w/o wengo, and it doesn't
cost wengo anything since it can be setup by private people on their
personal web space.
That's right, i like the idea too. There are several ways to achieve this goal. One is to write a contact list client layer which would have plugins, one for each storage protocol (LDAP, HTTP, etc.). Then, there are open questions like, what happens if the user wants to use several protocols at once. Do we merge data from each plugin?
Any input on this subject is more than welcome, so feel free to discuss it further.
Thank you very much for your insightful comments.
